Hi Karen,
It’s great to hear you have returned to work and are considering a cognitive assessment to guide your future career choices. Both Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Neuropsychologists play important roles in return to work transitions, particularly when it comes to cognition.
OTs provide cognitive assessments across a range of cognition areas. These include: attention, memory and visual processing skills. They also provide cognitive retraining or therapy and strategies for cognitive impairments. Neuropsychologists perform more in-depth cognitive assessments. They also provide cognitive strategies to guide ongoing rehabilitation (including OT).
In your case, I would consider a neuropsychologist assessment with the option of OT for rehab if the neuropsychology assessment indicates this.
Please feel free to contact us at StrokeLine (1800 787 653, AEST) if we can assist further. My colleague Simone is an Occupational Therapist and works Mondays-Wednesdays.
All the best,
Lisa (Speech Pathologist for StrokeLine)
Hi Karen I think an OT assessment is a better option as you have returned to work it will be easier to access and usually quite a bit cheaper if private or free if through a public hospital service A good GP may advise or use google to find someone near you they should be able work out any areas of deficit to start a programmeIf If they can't they will be able to suggest a Neuro psych for more testing
