Hi Emily
I'm sorry to hear about your stroke.
The decision whether to start or continue oral contraception after a stroke should be based on an overall assessment of risk and benefit and non-hormonal methods of contraception should be considered.
We strongly recommend consulting with a neurologist and your doctor to find the best form of contraception for you following your stroke.
Research shows that the risk of stroke associated with oral contraception appears to increase for women who suffer from migraine, particularly migraine with aura (Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management 2010). Stroke risk with oral contraception may also be increased in those who smoke or have high blood pressure although the association is less clear.

Best wishes,

Hi Emily, Sorry to hear of your stroke. I'm 35 and had a stroke three months ago. My doctor advised me to never take/use any contraceptive using oestrogen, instead only progesterone. I think the mini pill is progesterone.
Have a talk to your doctor and also neurologist to find out what would be best for you.
