Hi Shannon,
Thank you for reaching out to StrokeLine at the Stroke Foundation in Australia. I am sorry to hear about your husband’s stroke and the pain he is experiencing.
I believe you are located in the USA, Unfortunately, the information we can provide is based on our Australian knowledge of services and may not be relevant to you outside of Australia. For more appropriate stroke support, it may be beneficial to contact your local stroke association. You may wish to reach out to the American Stroke Association American Stroke Association.
Unfortunately, pain can be very common following a stroke and it can be difficult to say just how long someone may experience it for. Your husband's treating team will work with him to identify the cause of his pain. Pain can be treated with medication and a range of different treatments. As we are not medically trained, we cannot provide medical advice regarding medication. Please speak with your husband's local doctor or GP about his experience, as they may be able to develop the right strategies and treatment for your husband.
For information and resources on pain management, including our pain after stroke fact sheet, please visit our EnableMe website here.
However as mentioned above, our resources are Australian based and may not be relevant to your situation. We again encourage you to reach out to your local association.
We hope this information is helpful for you.
Best wishes,
Jo (Strokeline)
