I would like to know more about stroke related epileptic seizures?

My wife suffer a stroke 16 months ago. Why since I become a member no one is talking about seizures and in particular stroke related epileptic seizures. Seizures in general are very common to a stroke survivor. I witnessed my wife two months a go having one and I do not wish to any one to witness such event. My wife had a stroke 16 months ago. There was no neuro doctor to tell me about it. I was devastated more than the moment that the stroke struck my wife. I believe that it is very important to have such a subject in your columns

Firstly, we are so sorry to hear of your wife’s stroke and the seizure she has had. It must have been very distressing for you both. As in your wife's situation, some stroke survivors can unfortunately go on to experience a seizure. Those with certain types of strokes are at an increased risk of seizures. These include those with bleeds rather than blockages, severe strokes and those involving the cortex part of the brain. 

 

Have you had discussions with a neurology team about reducing the risk of further seizures?
