Its been 5 years now from my stroke where I had to learn how to walk again, still haven't full balance or right side co-ordination but with the help of family and good friends I'm back on the road again. it took me Adult Training Wheels and lots of patience and a few accidents along the way (and Motor Cycle Amor (Plastic of coarse)).

These days I can do most things so you can too, just have the determination to do it, NO or I CAN"T isn't an option just keep on trying till you can!Trainers2020 just before our 65K rideNever Give Up!

Thanks for sharing. I had my stroke in early January this year and your story gives me hope for the future.

One of  my goals is to ride my bike again.

You might fall but pick yourself up and try again and keep trying, you'll find it applies to everything and eventually you will succeed!

Good luck with your goals of swimming and bike riding.

I resumed  bike riding gradually 6 months after my stroke. In the interim I maintained my fitness by riding a stationary bike at home, my Physio recommended specific balance exercises and then I started riding at quiet times on bike paths with family members and then progressing to riding on quiet roads.

I also returned to swimming, and noted that some people in the pool were using aids like face masks with snorkel arrangement and flippers.

i also wore a bracelet with my engraved medical details in case I had an accident when by myself.

All the best with your goals.

Ian

Thanks Ian. The sharing of your journey is encouraging and appreciated. I'm doing well with the stationary bike & my rehabilitation program is going well, despite the pandemic limitations. I'm grateful to be surrounded by amazing supports.

All the best.

Marty

From Garry,

Hi Melissa. I had my stroke on the 7 April 2011. They let me out of hospital for Easter. My wife and I when out and brought a stationery stand for my bike. After I got out of hoslital I would sit on my bike for an hour a day. Four months after my stroke I took it out on the road. A year later I finished a sprit triathlon. This photo is of me ten weeks ago were i finished the Geelong Ironman 70.3. It was a lot of hard work coming back because my right leg give out on me when I had the stroke. Oh I look at this photo and think about how much the world has changed in the last ten weeks. As Shelagh said. Just take thing steady and try not to give up.
