Hi Helen,
Your question has had many more responses. Walking and movement is an issue many in the community have experienced.
Ian Franklin 4 months ago I was paralyzed on the left side being the bread winner in our family, I had to recover and quickly, constant exercise, gardening, and pure stubbornness, I am back at work as a diesel mechanic in the mines, its hard, it hurts, I get tired, but I keep struggling on, good luck.
Lee Moran Cormack Research Exercise Physiology and join up with a group if you can. My over 60 strong and steady group has closed temporarily due to the virus . I miss going very much

Laine Yates Best advice I can pass on is to listen to your body. U will be exhausted from simple tasks of having a shower & getting dressed, having conversations etc etc. Just try & Listen to your body and rest up. If you push thru it, you might risk an accident or suffer from more fatigue the next day. Ur fatigue levels & ability will get better slowly ... but just keep trying & don’t give up. U’ve got this & we r here 4 u! Sending u best wishes & love for your recovery!! X
Sylvia Beck It’s wonderful to have goals but just beat yourself up if you don’t achieve them. I still need an aid after 20 years.
Karen Bayly What is affecting the steadiness of Helen's walking? If it is sensory, my suggestion is hydrotherapy.
Lorraine Nixon Just take your time your body tells u most things I had a stroke very severe but with good therapy and determination I am very well
Lee McKenna Sending. You survivor courage.
Steve Walsh Bottom line is NEVER give up! Everyone recovers at different levels and no two strokes are exactly the same. Everyone gets tired and that’s ok, but you need to listen to your body when you need to rest. Have faith in your therapists (they are not there for themselves, they are there for you, to empower you to help yourself) to guide you with the correct exercises based on the best research and evidence. As a Physio, the biggest battle I see in stroke survivors is believing in what you can do and what you are capable of achieving. Believe in the power of your mind! You can ALWAYS do something no matter how small!
Sue Jones Keep positive hun, sheer determination and you will get there..I did..nearly died 4yr ago from a stroke..😘
Paula Johnson My partner also had a severe stroke in Jan 2017
Went from wheelchair to foot/leg brace and walking stick to now walking around the house with no brace on
Just never give up .. start with balance ❤repetition and rest 💛
Tracey Lang You got this Helen, take your time and take one day at a time when you have a bad day just rest and start again the next day. Set small goals and you'll achieve them all
Your a warrior Helen never forget that 💪💜
Nicholas Waters You’ll get there with the right therapists , self care and time , I was a very dense hemiplegic and hoist transfer for nearly all of my 7 month inpatient stay but am now chair free and walking independently in and outside after almost two years but still with significant gait issues : never give up !
Emma A Warner If you’re not already seeing a physio, get a physio to help with in-home sessions to tailor your treatment to your own environment.
Check the APA website to find someone suitable in your area or check with your GP for recommendations.
Best wishes for achieving your goals! 👍
Lesley Ganderton If you can try walking in a heated pool for only 5mins to start with it was what got my walking and balance to a good level it takes time and will make u tired but well worth the effort in yrs to come x good luck
